What is happening: Amazon have announced they will hire thousands of seasonal drivers to help with the holiday delivery rush.
Drivers: The drivers would be paid between $15 and $19 per hour, would have the vans provided, and would work 10 hour shifts.
Free shipping: This follows Amazon’s offer of free shipping for all customers during the holiday season.
Reliance: By hiring a new fleet of seasonal drivers, Amazon will not be relying on services such as UPS, FedEx and USPS to deliver last mile goods.
Savings: Providing last mile services in house could save Amazon huge amounts of money. New hikes to postal rates are coming into effect in January 2019, and would cost the company around $1 billion.
