What is happening: Kroger have announce plans to open their first ever Ocado customer fulfilment center in Monroe, Ohio. This region is ideal as there isn’t much in the way of large-scale e-commerce competition in the area.
The Shed: The warehouse has been dubbed a ‘shed’, and will span across 335,000 square feet. It will cost $55 million and feature automated, robotic, and digital capabilities for food storage and retrieval.
Ocado: Kroger and Ocado partnered up in May to bring customers automated fulfilment capabilities.
Future: The company hope to open 20 more across the US in the future. Three other sites should be announced by the end of 2018.
Online: This project should do wonders for Kroger’s online growth, as this is exactly what they will need for online grocery delivery and order pickup.
