What is happening: The Woolrich Mill in Pennsylvania has shut its doors after 170 years of operation.
Mill: The woolen mill has weaved fabric and garments for the American people for nearly two centuries. Most recently, it fashioned blankets for Union soldiers, and flannel shirts for the younger generation.
Shutdown: The closure comes after a mixture of bigger competition, and a lack of investment in recent years.
Future: Woolrich is now in the hands of a private-equity holder. They will keep the business name, but the factory has been shut down for good.
