What is happening: Amazon has agreed an expanded lease with Air Transport Services Group for an additional 10 aircraft.
When is this happening: The 10 jets will be introduced over the next two years.
Amazon: Amazon Air will now have 50 aircraft in its fleet, with 30 coming from ATSG. They fly in and out of over 20 different airports around the world.
Delivery: This comes as Amazon are pushing to take a market share in delivery and shipping operations, easing the focus away from FedEx and UPS. The company also has 10,000 truck trailers at its disposal.
Costs: Amazon’s shipping costs went up to $21.7 billion in 2017, from $16.2 billion in 2016. They are relying on expansion and its own logistics infrastructure to cope with this rise.
