What is happening: Walmart managed to take on an impressive 1,400 new truck drivers in 2018 alone, thanks to a shorter hiring cycle.
Why is this happening: As well as the shorter hiring cycle (from 73 days to 31), Walmart credit a $1,500 referral bonus, and modern recruiting practices.
Numbers: The company were up 50% on new drivers from 2017. Walmart hired a net number of 694 new drivers. The other 706 merely made up for those leaving or retiring.
Youth: Walmart have looked to social media advertising and recruitment to tap into the youth workers.
Payment: Yahoo Finance claim a first-year Walmart driver makes around $86,000 per year. This doesn’t include bonuses, and they also receive health benefits and paid vacation.
