What is happening: Boeing and Airbus have long since dominated the commercial aviation businesses, but they could see a potential new rival rise up from China.
Market: The $190 billion global commercial aviation market is currently tightly gripped by the two heavyweights, but China’s Comac will be looking to upset the balance. Boeing and Airbus have cut down any recent threats immediately by investing in Embraer and Bombardier.
Comac: Comac have designed the new narrow-body C919 jet in order to rival the existing A320 and 737. The C919 debuted last year. They will be looking to branch out into their own larger supply chain.
China: Comac have a ready-made emerging aviation market in their native China, which could see huge boosts in sales in the near-future. The two existing heavyweights won’t be able to eliminate or buy out this new threat.
