What is happening: There may soon be an inventory problem at car dealerships around the US, as sales begin to drop.
Unsold: Vehicles left unsold on dealer lots were up 4% from December to January. This also represented just under a 4% rise from the same time in 2017.
Sales: Sales trends are also on the decline, falling 1% in the last month alone.
Shipments: Automotive shipments in the US and Canada dropped to their lowest number since 2013 last year, falling another 1.8% already this year.
Manufacturers: Car manufacturers are still estimating 17 million cars built this year, a similar number to the last few years.
Space: However, if cars don’t start shifting from lots soon, there may be a severe lack of space for this inventory.
